Up for Review: Westinghouse TX-42F810G LCD TV. Although Westinghouse has mainly brought out basic sets all the time with very small display sizes, this one is different because of its good screen size. The 42-inch screen size is impressive even though there can still be much larger display sizes in the LCD panels. However, apart from the screen size, there is not much to look forward to in the set. There is neither 3D nor Internet TV. You only have a full-HD screen which is good for watching movies and playing games. The picture quality of the set is good enough and the price is quite affordable. This can be a good set to keep in the office. The kids of today will never allow you to place such a set in their room though. They will not compromise with a set not having at least Internet TV.

The full-HD resolution is a point in favor of this set. This is one of the few things in the TV which makes it worth buying. When you have 1080p resolution, you can think of watching movies on the Blu-ray player or playing games on the Nintendo Wii or Sony Playstation. You can be assured of getting good and sharp pictures all the time. But although the resolution is good, the contrast ratio is only average. With a contrast ratio of 4000:1, you can hardly expect very good black levels in the TV. You can be sure that the dark images will not be very much distinct against a dark background. The images may also not be good enough in a dimly-lit room.

The viewing angle of 176 degrees in both vertical and horizontal directions is alright if you are the only viewer and seated right in front of the TV. It would have been much better if the viewing angle would have been 178 degrees. This would have ruled out washing out of colors at the edges. But if you are the only viewer, the viewing angle will not matter much. But the feature which should have been upgraded is the refresh rate. This set only has 60Hz refresh rate which will not be able to give really good images especially in the high action scenes. You won’t be able to enjoy the action flicks or the gaming action with only 60Hz.

The sound output of the TV is 10W which is not too bad. You won’t find many basic sets from other manufacturers which have a significantly higher sound output. And again, since you will be the only one watching TV in the room which may be your office, you won’t need a very high level of sound. And if you decide to use this set to watch movies then you can connect a home theater system through the 3 HDMI available. Although there are only 3 HDMI in the set, this can be enough for your needs. For watching normal news and weather in the office, you will only need a set top box, which can be connected through any of the HDMI in the set. This is the best set that you can have for your basic needs.

Up for Review: Vizio M550SR LED LCD HDTV. Most of the sets from Vizio this year have been integrated with all the features that you would look forward to and this model is also no exception. The very first thing which will appeal to you about the TV is the display size of 55-inches. It is a certainty that you will love to view the images on the huge screen. The fact that this set has only 720p resolution is not much of a problem as you will only view the TV shows on it. Although this is only a basic 32-inch TV, you won’t complain much about the picture quality. It has full HD 1080p resolution which makes the pictures really sharp.
