Panasonic Viera TC-P65VT25 Review: 65” Plasma HDTV

Up for Review: Panasonic Viera TC-P65VT25 Plasma TV. Panasonic had its share of glory this year at CES when it introduced the new VT25 series of Plasma TVs. This series has the most talked about 3D technology together with an Infinite Black Pro panel. It also has a very good contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 which forecasts excellent black levels. Among the other notable features of this TV is the THX certification. But the 3D technology surely takes the cake and Panasonic has been thoughtful enough to provide one set of eyewear to view the 3D effects. It remains to be seen how interested the people will be to view the TV at all times with this eyewear on.

Unlike the other HDTVs, where the manufacturers have tried to convert the 2D content to 3D before viewing, Panasonic makes no such effort in this TV. Unless there is a 3D source, it will be impossible to view the 3D content. This may be a very dangerous prospect for the manufacturer as we have to wait for some time before we can get to see any 3D source, though that day may not be too far away. Besides 3D, other interesting features include the Viera Cast, where wireless capability makes it possible to access content like Amazon VOD, Netflix, Skype, YouTube, Bloomberg News Service, Twitter and many more. The Viera Link also helps to connect the home entertainment system so that you can access all the content on the TV.

Panasonic Viera TC-P65VT25 Features and Specifications Review:

  • 65” display
  • 3D ready
  • 1080p display resolution
  • Wi-Fi
  • VGA
  • SD card
  • USB port
  • 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio

The 3D effects found in this model when showcased at CES seemed to be much better than most of the LCDs. The 600 Hz subfield drive makes it possible for both eyes to view 1080p resolution. In the case of LCDs, even a 240 Hz refresh rate will give around 800 lines of resolution in 3D. This was responsible for the much better picture quality in Panasonic Plasma then in the other LCDs. And when you add to this the excellent contrast ratio, it is quite clear that the images really have to be very good. But the manufacturer has not tried to make the TV much more visually appealing by making it very thin. This year the models are quite thick in depth but have a more improved technology.

The inclusion of Skype services seems to be well timed by Panasonic this year. It will help people to view their dear ones and talk to them on the big TV screen itself instead of peering into the computer screens. This feature has been included in this 65-inch version and still has a long way to go in terms of clarity. Apart from this feature, another main feature which was the focus of most HDTV manufacturers is the energy conservation issue. Panasonic is working towards making this Plasma TV one of the most energy efficient in the industry. Taking a look at the entire TV, you are sure to be impressed by it from every angle that you see. It is worthy enough to be made a proud possession in your house.
