The Panasonic TH-50PH9UK 50″ Plasma TV isn’t your standard consumer plasma television; which is both good and bad. You can find the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK for under $2000 which is quite impressive for that size of plasma TV. So why is it so cheap? Did they skimp on the picture quality? Does it only last a year? No, the picture is impressive and it should last as long as most plasma’s. The difference between the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK and your standard 50″ plasma are some of the extra’s. This large plasma is actually more intended for commercial use as a display. This set doesn’t come with a stand, speakers or tuner and has only 4 input source options. While some of that may not sound so great, it may be the perfect fit for some users. If you plan to mount this TV on your wall and add a surround sound system, what’s the point in paying for these extra parts that you won’t need? Here are some technical details to help you decide if the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK is right for you:
Panasonic TH-50PH9UK Features and Specifications:
- Resolution: 720p (1366×768)
- Contrast Ratio: 10,000:1
- Component Video Input: 1
- S-Video Input: 1
- Composite Video: 1
- PC compatible: Yes
- Picture-in-Picture: Yes
As you can see, the connection options are somewhat limited on this TV set. The good news is that there is an available slot to add a connection type of your choice. For high-definition reasons, HDMI is the most recommended. The Panasonic TH-50PH9UK produces an impressive picture with very nice, deep black but the primary colors aren’t as accurate as could be. Although you may need to upgrade the Panasonic Plasma set, it may be a great option for someone who wants a Plasma TV at a reasonable price and doesn’t need all the bells and whistles (which can be purchased separately if needed). Being able to get just the TV set and then pick a few upgrades is similar to buying a computer online and adding what you need and removing the things you don’t need. The Panasonic TH-50PH9UK could be the perfect, inexpensive option for just the right person.
YouReviewElectronics.com gives the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK 8/10 stars!

I get the impression that this monitor is more for commercial use and its meant to be used to display a slideshow or something you would see in a lobby. It’s pretty cheap but upgrading and adding things on might bring it into the price range of a normal Plasma TV.
