Panasonic TC-P58S1 Review: 58” Plasma HDTV

Up for review: Panasonic TC-P58S1 Plasma TV.  Panasonic has tried its best to level the issue of energy efficiency in the Panasonic TC-P58S1. It has tried to wrest the advantage of the LCDs by introducing a Neo PDP plasma panel, which utilizes half the energy for the same level of brightness. A review shows that this HDTV is a part of six screen sizes of S1 model from Panasonic. Most of them are in the process of being launched in the market in a month or two.

The Panasonic TC-P58S1 is the least expensive among all the Panasonic HDTVs having 1080p resolution. The innovative Neo PDP panel not only serves to save power but also enhances the contrast ratio, thereby contributing to a more intense black level. The Panasonic TC-P58S1 has almost all the new features introduced by Panasonic this year.

The Panasonic TC-P58S1 sports an “Infinite Black” panel which means it shuts off power completely during completely black images. It also has a 600 Hz sub-field drive to display excellent motion resolution. This is an effort to compete with the advanced motion technology in LCD HDTVs. However, the anti-reflective filters are the same as in the last year models.

Panasonic TC-P58S1 Features and Specifications Review:

  • 58” screen
  • Neo PDP
  • 1080p resolution
  • Full-time 1080 lines Moving Picture Resolution
  • VIERA Link™
  • VIERA Image Viewer™
  • 600 Hz sub-field drive
  • AR filter
  • Game mode
  • 3 HDMI inputs
  • 40,000:1 native contrast ratio
  • Infinite black panel

There is very little scope for picture adjustment. One main control called “Picture”, which refers to the contrast level of the images, is there. There are also four main picture modes along with three color temperature presets. Video noise and black level can be adjusted too. There is a pixel orbiter which prevents burn-in. It can also rectify the problem.

A review shows that the Panasonic TC-P58S1 is all set to steal hearts with emphatic black levels and energy-efficient Neo PDP panels. The price will also be less than the V10 series as it lacks the VIERA Cast and THX-certified pictures. The average consumer s bound to put its money on the product since it gives all the necessary features but without a pricey tag.

YouReviewElectronics.com gives Panasonic TC-P58S1 8/10 stars!
