Panasonic TC-54PS14 Review: 54” Plasma HDTV

Up for review: Panasonic TC-54PS14 Plasma TV.  Panasonic is getting creative and trying to be competitive in the lower-end HDTV market. It has included some of the features of its higher end models which is already an advantage over some of the lesser-known brands. The Panasonic TC-54PS14 has 1080p resolution and Neo PDP panels but lacks the VIERA Cast features. The price is however not too bad keeping in view that most of the important features are still retained in this model.

A review of the screen shows that the Panasonic TC-54PS14 has Neo PDP plasma panels. These panels save a lot of power but without weakening the brightness levels in any way. The contrast ratio is a good 30,000:1. The picture quality is good but the color still has a long way to go. The color is not uniform throughout the display. However, the pictures are clear and crisp. With the ongoing campaign for power saving, every manufacturer, including Panasonic is determined to stay ahead with new designs.

The resolution of the Panasonic TC-54PS14 is 1080p. It also has 600 Hz sub-field drive. This enables the pictures to be somewhat stable and judder-free. Panasonic also advertises the Infinite Black panels which save on power. The scenes, where there is lack of any images, appear to be completely black. It is almost as if the HDTV has switched off power. The details of the images can also be observed quite distinctly due to improved black levels.

A review of the connectivity options shows the presence of SD Photo Viewer. This feature streams photos from the SD card slot and portrays them on the big screen. You can now share your personal photos with your family. The VIERA Link feature is another major attraction of the Panasonic TC-54PS14. All the compatible gadgets that you can connect across the HDMI inputs can be controlled through the HDTV’s remote.

The Panasonic TC-54PS14 is a great option for those shopping in the more reasonable price range.  It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of other HDTV’s but you get a strong and dependable brand name at a much lower cost.
