Marantz PD5020D Review: 50” Plasma HDTV

This is a very good product from Marantz. The contrast ratio has been increased by 50% which gives better blacks then ever before. The new AccuCrimson filtering in the Marantz PD5020D makes the reds more prominent than in the other Plasma TVs. There is another AccuBlend Scaler technology which allows the smooth blending of images regardless of the source. The source can be anything from among composite video, UXGA computer resolutions and 18 modes of ATSC video. The 3:2 pulldown works wonders for the images. The film-based sources will have a good reproduction without any judder.

A review shows that the Marantz PD5020D can handle different sources with élan. You can view multiple sources at the same time on the screen. Thus, it can be put to several multi-tasking uses like teleconferencing and workgroup collaboration. You can also use the zoom facility to put the spotlight on any particular portion of the screen.

Marantz PD5020D Features and Specifications Review:

  • Size 50”

  • Resolution 1365 x 768
  • AccuCrimson™ filtering
  • AccuBlend™ Scaler
  • AccuShield™ system
  • 3D Motion Adaptive Scan Converter

There are several control options in the Marantz PD5020D. There is a wireless IR control and also an RS232C external control. They perform several important functions. A phosphor protection circuitry has been incorporated to take care of image burn-in in the plasma panel. This has been termed the AccuShield System. Its circuitry involves a pixel orbiter, an inverse display and a brightness limiter. Besides this circuitry, there is also a programmable pixel refreshment system which makes use of a scrolling white bar. This keeps activating the pixels in still images, which rules out burn-in. The images on the screen are not disturbed by this exercise.

There is still more technology involved in the Marantz PD5020D. A review shows that there is advanced capsulated color filer (CCF) technology which represents all the colors truly and makes screen reflection totally absent. A black matrix takes care of the contrast and black levels. And to add to all this is 3D Motion Adaptive Scan Converter which gives excellent picture quality.
