Marantz PD5010D Review: 50” Plasma HDTV

Keeping up with evolution of popular trend in the market, Marantz launched the new PD5010D. It has a huge 50” display and has a plasma panel. This plasma panel is highly improved and comes with the latest technology. This HDTV suffers a little from all the regular problems in Plasma TVs. Although the black level performance is very good, it still has a long way to go. Small waves of noise can be seen traveling across the screen, but they are not very noticeable. Most HDTVs suffer from these problems and the Marantz PD5010D is no different.

Another factor which affects the sale of the Marantz PD5010D is its price. The present price is a lot below its initial one, but still it is out-of-reach of the average customer. The price is directly proportional to the size. Owing to its large display size, the HDTV is also very highly priced at $19,995 MSRP. It has a resolution of 1365 x 768 and it can change the incoming signals to synchronize with it. It also integrates PAL and SECAM capability.

There is a new feature in the Marantz PD5010D which involves the 4:3 mode. You can change the black bars to grey with the adjustable side panels. By customizing the side-bars shade, you can prevent 4:3 burn-in. Since burn-in is a serious problem in plasma TVs, this innovative feature is a good inclusion. You can now use the Marantz PD5010D as a computer monitor without any fear.

Although the remote is oddly shaped, it still has all the necessary buttons in the right place. However, the buttons are not back-lit which makes it difficult to see in the dark. There is a Proceed button on the remote which acts as the menu button.

Connectivity is quite good in the Marantz PD5010D. There are 2 composite video inputs, 3 stereo analog audio inputs, 1 S-video input and many more inputs. The performance of the Marantz PD5010D is very good in comparison to the other brands in this display size. It is a good HDTV to possess.
