LG 60PK950 Review: 60” Plasma HDTV

Up for Review: LG 60PK950 Plasma TV. With more developed technologies and better look, the new PK950 series of plasma HDTVs from LG are going to hit the market with gusto. Not only the enhanced design but also the reduced weight of the LG PK950 series has created a new buzz in the HDTV arena. The LG 60PK950 is a 60 inch plasma HDTV from LG’s new line-up that is distinguished from other plasma models of the year for its slicker silhouette.

With around 2” deep body, the LG 60PK950 plasma HDTV boasts a modern look that makes its appearance distinguished from other HDTVs. The front glass that stretches out to the edges of the model adds to the splendor of the TV. Moreover, the 60PK950 model is around 40% lighter than the previous plasma HDTV models from LG. In fact, some of the larger sized HDTVs of the PK950 series are comparatively lighter models.

The LG 60PK950 is a THX certified model of the PK950 series. It is designed with the “Skin Glass” system of LG that is used to protect the panel. That apart, the system also reduces the internal reflection as it is designed to lessen the distance of the outer glass and TruBlack filter by 70%.

The HDTV also uses 600Hz Sub Field drive, a technology used to develop the resistance of the plasma to motion lag. With this advanced technology, the viewers of plasma HDTV are expected to get over the motion lag that was earlier the prime feature of the LCD HDTVs.

Adding to the advanced technologies used in the PK950 series of HDTVs, LG has designed the models to access LG’s NetCast services. The users of the LG 60PK950 model can take advantage of the NetCast services using the built-in ethernet or an additional USB wireless adapter. The NetCast service include VUDU video on demand, YouTube video, Skype video calling and conferencing, NetFlix, Napster, etc.

All models of LG’s PK950 series are DLNA compatible. The LG 60PK950 plasma HDTV with its wireless HD hub allows transmitting 1080p video from a distance up to 98 feet. Another attractive feature of the TV is the new magic wand remote of LG that allows controlling the TV functions as the Nintendo Wii. However, the performance of the PK950 series is yet to be observed.
