Up for review: LG 50PS80 Plasma TV. The LG 50PS80 is one of the few new models from LG chosen to have the NetCast™ Entertainment Access feature. Ethernet will allow you to directly view movies, TV shows and video on your HDTV. Reviews show that LG has signed up with NetFlix, Yahoo! and YouTube to stream entertainment directly to your home. You don’t have to be sitting at your computer to view these anymore. Besides entertainment, it will bring you the latest news, stock market updates, weather information and photo management at the press of a button on the remote.
The LG 50PS80 integrates the Yahoo! Widget Engine which enables the use of TV widgets. TV widgets are important links to popular internet services and online media. Specially designed applications will get you your desired news channel, financial news and weather updates. Online photo management is made easy through Flickr.
LG also brings “Smart Energy Saving” package to you which is great considering plasma TV’s are known for their higher power consumption.

Reviews show that the brightness is highly improved in the LG 50PS80, with reduced glare. There is also a fast response time with 600 Hz smooth motion for great pictures. This particular HDTV also comes along with THX Display Certification to produce life-like images. This THX Media Director simplifies the working of the LG 50PS80. It gives the exact settings required by a viewer and makes the movies seem real and natural. Digital media involving music and movies can directly communicate the settings with other THX Media Director-enabled HDTVs.
The 50-inch Plasma HDTV will be available in 2009. This series is LG’s top of the line Plasma TV’s. Although you can find cheaper TV’s or plasma TV’s that have some extra features, the LG 50PS80 should be a nice in-between option. It may not be the absolute best 50-inch Plasma HDTV available but it has a great picture and the price is manageable.
