Review of LG 50PG20: 50” Plasma TV
Not one to be left behind, LG introduced the 50PG20 into the television market as a contender to some of the other budget brand plasma TV’s. After review, Its sleek black finish is a treat for the eyes. A non-reflective coating atop the screen restricts the harshness of the room light and is a relief for the eyes. The 50PG20 features a 720p display with a 1365 x 768 resolution providing judder free images. Video processing is superbly done by Dual XD Engine for excellent black levels and life-like images. There is a noticeable reduction in the noise levels also.
The 180 Hz video processing speed coupled with Fluid Motion technology put fast car races and action sequences in a different perspective altogether. The fluid and vibrant quality of the pictures leaves nothing to the imagination. The most unique feature of the LG 50PG20 is the invisible speaker system. The speakers are camouflaged under the bottom of the cabinet, lending a sleek look to the television.

Some reviews note one minor flaw reported is in the remote control which is not very well-designed. The placement of the buttons is a bit clumsy and difficult to navigate. However, the menu system has been vastly improved from previous models, making navigation easy and simple. There are three HDMI connections which can carry all channels in audio and video. HDMI is backward compatible with DVI. A single cable is required for connection, resulting in a neat, clutter-free look. There are three power-saving modes which bring down the power consumption levels.
Priced at $1399, the LG 50PG20 is a sensible buy for anyone looking for average TV at a decent price. LG’s other 50” Plasma HDTV’s are substantially better but you’ll notice the price increase quite a bit. 1080p resolution is the most notable feature missing from the LG 50PG20.
