Mitsubishi WD-60735 Review: 60” DLP HDTV

Up for Review: Mitsubishi WD-60735 DLP TV. The design of the Mitsubishi WD-60735 is quite like other basic RPTVs. Its screen dominates the front panel. There is an extremely thin bezel at the top and sides. However, the bottom widens out to give way to the sturdy stand below. The sleek black color gives a classy look to the TV. The Mitsubishi WD-60735 is a good one for its price. A price of $1,249 MSRP makes it a favorite among the consumers. With all the basic features of a HDTV and a 60-inch display, you can’t ask for more. The remote is another accessory available with the TV which has backlit buttons. It is quite a good fit in the hand.

The Mitsubishi WD-60735 sports a 3D mode but you have to activate it with a special kit. Since there are not many 3D sources, it is difficult to use this feature. There are very few options to adjust the picture too. Bright, brilliant and natural are the three picture modes available. And color temperatures also vary between High and Low. The much touted Perfect Color also does not live up to its expectations. But NetCommand is a unique feature in the Mitsubishi WD-60735. You can use an IR emitter to control other audio-visual devices through the TV. And another useful feature is the USB Photo Port which allows you to view your digital photos on the TV.

Mitsubishi WD-60735 Features and Specifications Review:

  • 65” RPTV
  • DLP Projection Display technology
  • 1920 x 1080p resolution
  • 16:9 image aspect ratio
  • 1 x analog/digital combo TV tuner
  • 4D digital comb filter
  • 180W lamp power
  • Universal remote control
  • 2 speakers of 20W
  • 3 HDMI
  • 1 USB port
  • Volume limiter

Connectivity options are good with 3 HDMI connections. Additionally, there are 2 RF inputs, 2 component video inputs, 1 composite video input and 1 S-video input. However, this big screen RPTV scores low on performance. The color is not consistent. The shades show up very poorly. But it sports superb black levels. The video processing is good but it could do away with some noise in the pictures. The 1080p resolution does not show up very accurately in the TV. The white field uniformity is good but the color tends to fade at the sides.

The Mitsubishi WD-60735 lacks a VGA interface. Hence it cannot be used as a computer monitor. The HDMI connections are unable to accept a digital PC signal. Thus, this HDTV lives up to its reputation as a TV with great black levels, many connectivity options and the important NetCommand device control. But the picture quality needs to be improved upon. However, if size is the criteria with decent HDTV features and a small price tag, then the Mitsubishi WD-60735 is the one for your money.
