Vizio VO400E Review: 40” LCD HDTV
Up for Review: Vizio VO400E LCD TV. With a clear emphasis on producing more energy efficient HDTVs, Vizio has introduced this model which is 25% more energy efficient than the required standards. But unfortunately, Vizio has chosen to stick to the Energy Star 3.0 requirements when its competing products have graduated to the Energy Star 5.0 standards. In fact, you can easily find out whether this model is really conserving energy from the difference in your utility bills. Besides the energy aspect, you can also consider the picture quality. Although this is not a feature-rich TV, yet Vizio has opted to keep 1080p resolution in this set. This is vital for getting a clear and crisp picture with very sharp images.
The contrast ratio is good at 50,000:1. This ensures optimum black levels and you can clearly notice the difference if you compare the blacks with a TV having much less contrast ratio. With a lower contrast ratio, the blacks will look more grayish than black. The brightness is also great at 500 cd/m2. This will make the images come alive in very dimly lit rooms as well as in well lighted rooms. The manufacturer has also made sure that you get very natural images by including 1.06 billion colors. The inclusion of so many shades adds a natural look to the images and you can very well distinguish between the skin tones of every character in the scene.

Since the TV has a viewing angle of 176 degrees, you can watch the TV from any place in the room. Even if you watch the pictures from an extreme angle, you won’t notice any washing out of colors. Just like in most lower-end HDTVs released this year, Vizio maintains the refresh rate of this TV at 60Hz also. This may not be enough for watching action sequences which need the images to be refreshed really fast. Otherwise, you will notice a blurring in the images. Ideally, 120 Hz and above are able to get rid of blurring completely. But 60Hz may not be enough for this purpose.
This TV includes 3 HDMI which is quite enough to connect the high definition devices of your choice. There is a V-chip in this model which allows parents to screen objectionable channels from their kids. In addition, there is a 3D comb filter too which gets rid of any disturbing noise in the images. Audio is good with SRS TruSurround HD but there is no TruVolume which means that you can’t eliminate the fluctuations in sound as you change channels or when the commercials come on. If you really want an HDTV for watching normal TV programs and also to watch some good movies on the Blu-ray disc player, then buying this set will be a wise decision.
YouReviewElectronics.com gives Vizio VO400E 3/5 stars!
