Review of Vizio VO32L – 32” LCD HDTV

When it comes to HDTV’s, bigger and more expensive means a higher profile in the press and a much greater techno-lust factor. Everyone would love to own a 60-inch Pioneer plasma set but who has $7K to buy one?

However, with the launch of the all new 32-inch Vizio VO32L, the scarcity of a mid-range HDTV is finally over. At around a price of $649.99, it is inexpensive compared to other LCD TV’s in the market.

With its advanced LCD display, Vizio VO32L is generally the best kind of flat-panel screen for viewing in brightly-lit rooms. The output resolution can be chosen between 720p and 1080i automatically. Also, you can choose to view either 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 regular displays.

A wide aspect TV such as Vizio VO32L is well-suited for DVD movies recorded in the popular 16:9 format, as well as high definition programming. The 3:2 pulldown feature of Vizio VO32L reduces artifacts that can occur when motion pictures are transferred to a digital format such as DVD.

Even though the speakers have only 12 watts of power, Vizio VO32L offers a variety of audio adjustments including an equalizer, but there’s no way to adjust bass or treble. It does have an ersatz surround mode that’s barely effective, not as good as SRS TruSurround or Dolby Virtual Speaker.

The only place where Vizio VO32L might upset you is the zoom factor. If you are looking for a full-screen mode television and zoom feature; Vizio VO32L doesn’t have such a feature- so it’s like watching a regular TV. However, This HDTV set can display images that are sharper and more realistic than regular television when mated to a high definition signal.

Advanced features such as 1100:1 static contrast ratio, 5500:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 6.5ms response time, 450 cd/m2 brightness and 8-bit panel helps overshadow the few limitations that Vizio VO32L has.
