VIZIO VL370M Review: 37″ LCD TV

Up for review: Vizio VL370M. If you think the new VIZIO VL series is in the news only because of its Java color, think again. Take the VIZIO VL370M model for instance – with the incorporation of trademark Smooth Motion II(TM) technology, it creates an impressive HDTV viewing experience for a budget brand. The JAVA color HDTV collection is totally unique when it comes to high style line of full HD 1080p and 120Hz LCD HDTV series from VIZIO.

What makes the High Style Line of Full HD 1080p and 120Hz LCD HDTV Series different is their unique product designs. Like other four models of the series, VIZIO VL370M includes deeper blacks with Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratios of 50,000:1. VIZIO HTDV engineers seem to have taken great care of the audio aspect of their products. The introduction of the advanced audio technologies from SRS Labs used in the VIZIO VL370M offers the viewer a superlative and realistic digital audio clarity in a truly surround sound ambience.

The VIZIO VL370M incorporates VIZIO’s Smooth Motion II(TM) technology that removes blur from fast-action movie sequences and refreshes motion picture images faster than standard 60Hz models. Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio(TM) of VIZIO enhances the picture quality by increasing the overall contrast ratio.

Viso has a long way to go in customer satisfaction. The are very slow in warrenty and seem not to know how their contractors work or where. I could not recommend this product after buying three and trying to get service.

I just picked one up at Costco for $579 plus tax.

The remote does NOT have a picture size/mode button. Change sources, say to DVD or laserdisk, and you have to reformat the picture. I think each input saves the picture setting so once it is set, it is set for good, but I’m not sure.

It also seemed that each input may save ALL the picture settings (color, tint, position, etc.). That is nice (but I haven’t confirmed it).

Nice picture. Mine was defect free. It handles 480p from my old DVD/DVR and 1080i/720p from my Concast cable box. Pics look good, but without a blu-ray source, I can’t really say how good. Comcast’s digital channel quality varies wildly by channel.

I picked this size because it fit inside out old entertainment center replacing our 35″ Toshiba CRT. Man, that sucker is HEAVY! Moving to the garage if I can get some of my friends to help move it!

On Sale at Costco now for $499.

Until I get my DirecTV HD box, I’m only using standard def (coax cable RF) input. Still, a fantastic picture.

At only 26 pounds, I was easily able to mount it on the wall myself.

The remote is simple but you can still get to all the features through the onscreen menu. I like it simple, but some people do not and prefer more buttons.

Bottom line is: A great 37″ LCD Full HD TV with an impressive contrast ratio of 50,000:1, all for $500 bucks!

Purchased this TV 2/12/2010. 5/23/2010 I had no picture. Called Vizio and supplied receipt. They were going to do an in home repair (any TV over 30″ qualifies according to web). Called to set up repair. I was told since I am out of the 90 day windows from the purchase date they are sending me a recertification. “What did that mean”, I ask. I want a new one as I purchased a new one 90 days +9 days over. Please bend the rules being that close. On hold while waiting for response from manager. Sorry I have to take the recertification model. I ask if they could just send someone out to repair as I don’t want to take a chance on one that ould be scratched, have blemishes, etc. My model number is repairable but cdue to the prefix of the S/N of that model it is unrepairable I was told. That seems oxymoronic. I asked if it was going to be destroyed when I ship it back as it is unrepairable. On a side not I agree the picture was fuzzy. I have 2 other Vizios and the picture is clearer than this one. Google “vizio won’t power on”.
