VIZIO VF551XVT Review – 55″ LCD TV with LED Backlight

Up for review: Vizio VF551XVT. With the launch of the VF551XVT model in the summer 2009, VIZIO plans to expand its HDTV flagship through the all new XVT Series. The new 55” VF551XVT LCD TV has the latest technological introduction of LED backlight to provide a faster response times and higher color saturation so as to deliver the best picture quality. A frequency of 240Hz and 1,000,000:1 Mega Dynamic Contrast with local dimming doubles up to deliver higher quality of images with deeper blacks and without any sort of motion blurs. In addition, the new VF551XVT is embedded with VIZIO’s Smooth Motion II™ technology.

With a modest price compared to most 55-inch LCD TV’s of around $1999.99, the VIZIO VF551XVT has loads of technological advance features. What’s more, this new VF551XVT LCD TV is mercury free, hence it’s environmently friendly too.

I know everyone can agree, but I can’t for this Vizio to be released. As great at their first gen of XVTs are, I feel like Vizio is going to take the cake with their new models, especially the VF551XVT. So far I’ve heard it has an amazing contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, BETTER viewing angles than Samsung models and local dimming. Once again, CANNOT WAIT!

I love this tv – great picture- sound- setup. I’m sure its the best price for a TV this big. The high definition is excellent at any angle, especially with a blue ray DVD !! I have read other opinions before buying it and it didn’t come out as the best TV made? maybe it isn’t to a pro tv evaluator , but for this price it’s pretty had to beat ! It is an American company that makes the TV in China was the only thing I didn’t like, made in china- on the box- but all the reviews state that it is the same parts used in other TV’s. I love high end TV’s but this was smart money down and I would recommend this to anybody who wants a big LCD TV.

I emailed last week Vizio and a sales person emailed me back that they should be shipping the TV in late June and the stores should have them available to sell in early July 2009.

Sams Club says they expect to have the VF551XVT in August — which is later than had originally been hoped.

I almost bought the VF550XVT when I saw it on display. Glad I decided to check the net and found the VF551XVT was coming. I’m hearing reports of September street date, but either way it’s going to be worth the wait.

…unless you can wait until December and get practically this same model but with internet TV capabilities. I don’t think I can hold out that long though.

Well they FINALLY got to my Albuquerque Costco for $1,999. I used my “free” American Express Costco card and the bottom line was I get to extend the manufacturer 1 Year limited warranty for an additional THREE years under Costco…. that is a total of FOUR years! I forward to seeing how it looks setup in the house. At the Costco it was sitting next to a bank of large screen Plasma and it was immediately apparently the whiteness (brightness) of the whites and the non-blurry motion… geez it was stunning. It looked awesome with but it was all being shown with an optimized demo video. I want to watch this in my normal TV viewing room to see if the blacks look good. I am currently replacing a DLP Samsung so I have to believe it will be much better than what I have been use to.

SAM’S CLUB AND COSTCO WARRANTY SUCK . I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY 42” VIZIO AND I CALLED SAMS CLUB CAUSE MY MANUFACTURE WARRANTY WAS UP AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE THE SERVICE DEPT CALL ME IN 2-3 BUISNESS DAYS. 2 WEEKS GO BY AND I TALKED TO A DIFFERENT REP AND SHE LOOKED UP MY NAME AND TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD CLASSIFIED MY PROBLEM AS ACCIDENTAL. MIND YOU I NEVER TOLD THEM WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. NOW HOW CAN THEY JUSTIFY IT AS ACCIDENTAL FROM THERE LITTLE CUBICLE? HUH I WONDER . RIPP OFF DO NOT SPEND THE 79.00 DOLLARS FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY WILL NOT GIVE YOU ANY HELP WHAT SO EVER. THEY EVEN TOLD ME THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR THE SERVICE GUY TO COME OUT AND LOOK AT IT. I HAVE THE EXTENDED 4 YEAR WARRANTY FOR WHAT? NOTHING . DO NOT GET IT…… SAM’S CLUB IS A RIP OFF

    Joe.

the warranty’s from Sam’s Club to Costco differ so much that it is like comparing apples to oranges. the problem you had was purchasing from Sam’s Club rather than Costco. Costco’s warranty has and will always be the leader because they always want to make sure you are happy. Not long ago but prior to the true 1080 HD’s, I purchased a 37″ vizio and within a year ( I pushed the resolution to the limit) it was dimming on its own. I brought it back to Costco and they asked: “How would you like your refund? Cash or Costco credit? If Cash you will have to wait for a check but if Credit we can do it here?” I took the credit and repurchased the same set but at Half the price (and with better contrast ration).

I have also purchased from Sam’s club and found that their “warranty’s” are Subjective to the person you speak with. So in other words – YOU GOT TAKEN AT SAMS!

Next time shop Costco. You will not be sorry.

PS – I do not work for nor own any stock in either firm. I just know when to go.

Its nice to hear all the positive stories. I have done the research like most of you’all and I ordered the 55″ LED Vizio from Dell. The only thing, its on backorder!!! I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas, come on Dell, I have my wall mounted bracket ready for its tv. This is definitely a great deal! Dell has it right now on sale for $1799.00 with free shipping. Cheaper than Sams and Costco!

I have a 50inch Hitachi plasma that I am pleased with. This week Sams club had the Vizio VF551XVT on sale for 1597 so I could not resist upgrading for the Super Bowl. This LED LCD exceeded my expectations of Vizio. I just passed on the Hitachi to my kids for their use and now the 55 is in the living room for all to enjoy. Just hope it is as reliable as the Hitachi was since I never had any issues in 4yr and counting.

The 551 performs very well and is especially good with standard definition format (as received on a C band satellite receiver). Of course DVD’s and BluRay are superb. Thanks Vizio.
