VIZIO VA220E Review – 22″ LCD TV
Up for review: Vizio VA220E. One of the smallest models of the newly launched EcoHD line of Vizio HDTV, the new VIZIO VA220E is likely to be a great energy savior for it consumes less then 60 watts of power while in operation. The model is also RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant. With a budgeted price of around $299.99, the new VIZIO VA220E is expected to create a buzz in the market especially among environmentally conscious consumers.
Black piano colored bezel wrapped in a compact design gives a stylish look to this new LCD TV. The new VA220E can support only 720p high performance signals, which is fine for the 22” smaller screen. With a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, 60Hz refresh rate and a dynamic contrast ratio of 5000:1; the VIZIO VA220E is expected to produce standard image output. But the 120Hz refresh rate (not 240Hz of its XVT Series) would have been preferred in this new EcoHD line of HDTV.

This LCD does have a game port, so it might be a bonus point for gaming enthusiasts. My 22″ Vizio HDTV lasted 6 months before the picture went blank as I watched it. That was in March of 09. After jumping through hoops for the company, I finally got them to agree that it should be repaired under warranty….duh… This is May and I have not gotten it back yet! Last week I called for the third time since I sent it back and was told that they hadn’t received it….I had called the week before and when they said they hadn’t received it I gave them the info on shipping and even the person’s name at Visio repair center who signed for it….oh, yeah, they had received it and were just then looking at it. I am FED UP. I’m thankful that I have two Sanyo sets and one Samsung in other rooms.
After one month, I lose the sound on Nickelodeon every 7 minutes and it comes back 7 minutes later. I have no sound on Cartoon Network, and USA and several others networks. It is connected directly to the cable outlet (no box). They told me that some of the signals are not strong enough. Or, I need a new coaxial. I connected it in two other rooms, (different cables) and no change. They told me to call my cable company to come and address the signal problems. Signals can get intterupted by tree branches or other items in the area. Nothing has changed in the area. The tree is fifty feet away. They offer no other solution. Can I return it to Walmart and tell my credit card company I will not pay it? (Unfortunately I threw away the box before this happened.)
I bought my VIZIO VA229E on April 9th from Wal-Mart. I am now the disgusted purchaser of a defective VA220E LCD TV. After less than 4 months of use the screen and screen mask have begun to de-laminate. A telephone call to VIZIO only resulted in VIZIO requesting I E-mail VIZIO pictures of the video using a VCR or other picture source, VIZIO Custormer Support refused to accept my assertation there was a mechanical or construction quality issue, VIZIO demanded that I E-mail pictures of the de-lamination to VIZIO for their engineers to review berfore VIZIO could decide whether or not there was a problem. If I have to do the troubleshooting and testing then why does VIZIO have a customert service dept. except for its publicity value. NEVER EVER buy any other VIZIO Products PERIOD. JUNK, JUNK, JUNK with indescribably horrible customer support. This company will not accept any responsibility for repairing defective VIZIO products.
VIZIO is the worst consumer experience I have ever had. I bought a 22″ LCD from Costco. There were major problems after 16 months, colors running together etc. Costco extends the warranty to 2 years. I reported this to Costco Concierge on July 9th and as of October 10th still no TV that works. Vizio, after a lot of hazzle had me ship the TV to them at my expense. They repaired the set I sent in and when I got it back there was no picture. Shipped back to them at my cost again (will not ship labels) and they sent me a different re-certified TV. It has a full length 3″ wide blue bar bleed on the screen. I am now shipping a TV back to Vizio for the 3rd time. Vizio customer service is a JOKE constant hassle, either denying there is a problem or saying that they will have to be refer to Level 3. The problem is that Level 3 are never present and when they are the operator will not let you talk to them. One time they even suggested that I let them put the original purchase price ($369) on a credit card and they would reverse the charge once they received the TV back ,PLEASE!! DO NOT BUY VIZIO. They are a RIP OFF and the quality of their product is INFERIOR, that is why they are cheaper. In addition, Costco will lose customers if they do not discontinue this line. Check on line, there are thousands more people just like me. Many have had problems after 3-4 months with no results. Purchase at your peril! Frustrated in California!!
