Vizio M260VP Review: 26” LED LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Vizio M260VP LED LCD TV. Vizio has maintained a good combination of high-end and low-end TVs this year to cater to every kind of viewer. Besides unleashing a range of models meant for the elite, it has also paid equal attention to the viewers wanting a more economical set. This 26-inch model is a simple offering from Vizio with very few eye-catching features. It is LED back-lit (the best option for LED TV’s) which divides the entire screen into different zones, with every zone lighting up and darkening as per requirement. This gives bright light in regions where it is necessary and total darkness in the relevant scenes. Besides providing better picture quality, it also conserves energy. However, the back-lit technology does not allow the TV to be as slim as you would want.

Vizio has not compromised on the resolution and contrast ratio and has kept it up to1080p and 100,000:1. This has helped to produce a very good picture quality which is the hallmark of the manufacturer. Accordingly, the images are bright and clear with very good black levels. You can expect to see deeper blacks and brighter whites. Although the competitors are providing much higher contrast ratios, 100,000:1 is not bad for a 26-inch screen. And since economy is the keyword here, there is no use in integrating higher technology and shooting up the price.

Vizio M260VP Features and Specifications Review:

  • 26-inch screen
  • LED backlighting LCD
  • 60Hz refresh rates
  • TruSurround HD and TruVolume
  • Slim design
  • Energy Star 4.0 compliant
  • 2 HDMI outputs

The refresh rate has been brought down to 60Hz. Gone are the days when 60Hz was supposed to be the best possible value and people were satisfied with the corresponding blurriness in the action scenes. With refresh rates rising up to as high as 480Hz in some flagship models, 60Hz seems too less even for a 26-inch set. It is tough getting clarity in the high action sequences in both movies and in games. Along with a low refresh rate this TV also has only 2 HDMI. You can only pick and choose between the high resolution devices you can connect. More HDMI would certainly have given you better scope for entertainment.

Although the speakers in this set are small, yet the sound does not suffer at all. With TruSurround HD sound, you get a feeling of being surrounded with the audio emanating from the TV. Be it dialogues or music; you can hear everything quite clearly. The TruVolume feature deals with the volume fluctuation problem. You get a steady sound at all times at just the level you have set. Since all the TVs have to comply with the energy conservation rules of the government, this set too is Energy Star 4.0 compliant. This is a good set if you feel happy with the basics. This can also serve as a good second TV in the house for your kitchen or office where all you want to do is look at the regular TV fare or listen to the news.

YouReviewElectronics.com gives Vizio M260VP 3/5 stars!

Bought a Vizio 26 inch in May, went bad in Nov. this year. Vizio would not repair or allow return. Now I have one third of a picture!

We bought ours Nov 17, 2010 and it is Jan 6, 2011 and we have no sound. We have the regular warrenty and bought a 2 year extended warrenty. SOunds like we made a good choice. We should all remember that with electronics, if there is a bad component, it ususally goes out in the first 6 months. However, it sounds like many others have systemic problems that speak to quality. We am rethinking our purchase.

We bought ours at Costco, and a few months later the sound went out. Costco found our receipt info in their system (we couldn’t find ours), and hooked us up with Vizio. Vizio sent us a box in which to ship our TV to them, and about a month later we were sent a brand new TV! That was great until a couple of months later, the sound went out on our NEW TV. So, we’ll see what happens when we send it back again. Must be a bad batch of TV’s because we have other Vizio models that work well. I wouldn’t buy this model for sure. Also, have to hand it to Costco for great customer service, and Vizio was prompt and polite too.
