Vizio M220VA Review: 22” LED LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Vizio M220VA LED LCD TV. Vizio has brought the LED technology within the reach of the not-so-rich. Though once considered to be a part of the large display units, it has now been integrated with the smaller ones to help provide a thinner profile, better picture quality and enhanced energy conservation. This 22-inch TV can fit into small homes, or can also be used as a second option in larger homes. Your kids will be pleased to have a sleek and technologically advanced TV in their room. Being very slim and sleek, it can be mounted on the wall and will also take up very little space when placed on its stand in a corner of the room.

Vizio has also tried to make the TV as appealing as possible. Although most 22-inch TVs previously had 720p resolution, this set has 1080p resolution which of course makes the images come alive. It pushes up the price a bit higher but the viewers will be prepared to pay for the enhanced images. Besides, this also comes of use when you watch movies through the HDMI. There are 5 high definition inputs which can help you to connect Blu-ray disc players, camcorders and gaming consoles and help you get entertained at will. You can watch movies, videos and play games in 1080p resolution. There is also a USB drive to help you play your photos from the digital camera.

Vizio M220VA Features and Specifications Review:

  • 22-inch display
  • Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 20,000:1
  • 1080p resolution
  • Viewable Angle: 170/160 degrees (horizontal/vertical)
  • SRS TruSurround HD™
  • SRS TruVolume™
  • Refresh Rate: 60Hz
  • LED: edge lit
  • Panel Lamp Life: 30,000 Hours
  • Universal Remote: VIZIO Remote Control – VR10 or VR10W
  • Energy Star 4.0

The viewing angle is not so good at 170/160 degrees (horizontal/vertical). The images will not be very good towards the edges if you sit at an extreme angle from the TV. Since it is a small TV, it is better if you sit directly in front to get the best view. However, the surround sound effects are so improved that you will be able to hear the dialogues and music even if you are far away. You will get the effect of phantom speakers all around you. The volume fluctuations are also ruled out by the SRS TruVolume. There will be a uniform sound even when you change channels or when the ads come on in every 10 minutes or so.

There is also a compromise in the refresh rate. But keeping in mind once again that it is only a 22-inch TV, 60Hz seems alright. There might be some issues when you watch really high-speed scenes but normal images will be very good. Vizio has also been considerate enough to provide a Universal remote with this set. It will be easy to control all the connected and compatible devices with one remote. This is basically a set which will keep you entertained with the normal TV fare, movies and games. But if you wish to get the 3D and Internet access features which were the main eye-catching features at the CES this year, you will have to opt for a higher-end TV.
