The VIZIO GV42LF HDTV is the latest LCD offering from Vizio, which offers full 1080p support at 42 inches. It is one of the most popular among enthusiasts, and the main reason for this is because it offers great picture quality and highest resolution, at an even greater price point. The official price of this set is $1,399, but it retails for a good hundred or two bucks less at various stores. That’s particularly impressive as quality LCD HDTVs tend to cost more than their plasma counterparts, and higher-end models with full 1080p support retail for even higher.

The GV42LFHDTV10a did a great job with everything we tested it with, including DVDs, television signals, gaming and use as a computer monitor. The image quality was excellent, and colors remained vibrant throughout. It also delivered relatively deep black levels – one of the best we’ve seen for LCDs in this price range. It is almost perfect when it comes to quality and price, and you might be wondering what you have to sacrifice for this kind of a bargain? We only had a couple of minor qualms about this set, one that it has picture-in-picture, but there is no button for this on the remote control. So if you want to watch two channels at the same time, you’ll have to access this feature from the on-screen menu. Plus, there is no headphone jack at all, which came as a surprise. Lastly, the set is not the easiest to setup - all the inputs are located on the back. All this is a small price to pay for the overall quality one gets, and the only reason this set doesn’t get a perfect ten. But if you can look past these minor shortcomings, then the VIZIO GV42LF is the best you can get for your money.
