Vizio E470VA Review: 47” LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Vizio E470VA LCD TV. After adding to the euphoria with a range of TVs having the latest Internet and 3D features, Vizio dishes out the truly basic LCD models to add to the variety. Although these models lack the top-ranked features of this year, yet they are well equipped with all the technology required for good picture quality. This 47-inch LCD TV model easily becomes the hot favorite in your living room adding a classy look to it. The slim black bezel with an LCD panel looks good both when placed on its stand and mounted on the walls. Some of the controls are placed at the bottom right corner and a few more at the side. The ports are located at the back of the TV.

With over 1.06 billion colors and 50,000:1 contrast ratio, the images look really vibrant and natural. The skin tones and the color of the apparel and also the surroundings almost make the pictures come alive on the 47-inch screen. The blacks are very dark and the whites completely pure. A brightness of 500 cd/m2 also adds to the effect. The 1080p resolution is of course a big factor in the enhanced picture quality which makes watching movies a pleasure on the big screen.

Vizio E470VA Features and Specifications Review:

  • 47″ LCD panel
  • 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • Dynamic contrast ratio: 50,000:1
  • Response time: 5ms
  • Refresh rate: 120Hz
  • Inputs: 4 HDMI, 1 component, 1 composite, 1 RGB PC, 1 USB
  • Built-in ambient lighting sensor

Sporting events also look great when viewed with 120 Hz refresh rate and 5ms response time. 120 Hz or higher refresh rates will help reduce the blurring motion you may have seen on older HDTV’s. The sound in the stadium also comes through to you with the SRS TruSurround HD audio. It gives you a feeling of being surrounded with speakers on all sides. The SRS TruVolume feature makes it easy to set the sound to the level you desire so that you can both enjoy the deafening sound in the stadium and also the low, soothing music in another channel.

There are 4 HDMI and a Direct USB photo viewing port which adds to your entertainment options. You have the option to connect high definition devices to the TV and watch movies, play games and also watch your favorite videos from the various devices. You can click as many photos as you want on the digital camera and watch them king-size on the 47-inch screen. In addition to all this, you get full energy conservation since the TV satisfies all the requirements of Energy Star 4.0. If you decide to buy this TV, you can be sure of getting good value for money.

YouReviewElectronics.com gives Vizio E470VA 4/5 stars!

The sound on my set is bad. The TruSound doesn’t work and commercials are very loud and the programs are OK (not great). Vizio is very difficult to deal with. First tech said it was my problem live with it. The second tech said they would replace the TV with a new one. The third tech said they would come and try to fix the sound problem. I am not sure they hav a clue what is going on and are stalling. I might take it back to Sams Club real soon. VIZIO spells BAD.

The picture quality is great but the sound was a real problem. Also, the picture would sometimes totally shut down. The fix I found for that was to plug the HDMI cable from the cable DVR box into the HDMI2 slot instead of the HDMI1 slot. As for the sound problem, turn off both the SRS surround and the TrueVolume and then set the sound to flat then go to the equalizer and set the Base to 90 and the Treble to 80 and you will have great sound. We set the volume level anywhere from 14 to 30 with 30 being very loud but not blasting. Our normal range being 14(Wife) 22(Me). I prefer 26-30 for great base and the surround affect. I have the TV mounted on the wall in the corner of the room.

I bought the Vizio E470VA from Target. I got it for a good price because it was the week before Christmas. I researched it for a few weeks and most of the reviews I saw were positive so I decided to get it. The picture is amazing and is very impressive for HD TV, and blu rays. However there are several key faults with this TV. First, when you are watching cable the TV show’s audio is perfect but the commercials are obnoxiously loud, you have to turn the volume all the way down just to make them sound normal, and when the TV show comes back on you have to turn the volume back up. I could have lived with that because the picture was so amazing but when I attempted to play Call of Duty on my PS3 the game seemed to lag. I attempted to adjust the settings on both the TV and my PS3 but nothing worked. I called Vizio and they said that this was common and on some other models there was an easy fix. However when I went to fix the problem it turned out that this particular model of TV does not have the capability to turn off “Smooth Motion” which was causing the lag. The tech from Vizio support told me there was nothing that could be done and that If I wanted to game without interference I should look at some other Vizio models that are able to turn off “smooth motion.” I returned the TV later that day and bought a Panasonic Viera 42″ plasma with a 600HZ refresh rate, the picture is just as good and it plays PS3 games flawlessly. Also the 50″ version of the Pasonic Viera is only $20 more than the Vizio if you get it from Best Buy. If you don’t game, this is a great TV, but if you do like to game, don’t buy this TV.

Love the picture! The sound with the SRS selections on is great for DVD movies. Not so great for regular tv, especially sports. The sound of the stadium drowns out the voices of the announcers. I noticed a similar effect while watching some ESPN programs. The music as they moved from one part of the program to another drowned out the narrator’s voice.

Ken – I’ll try your settings and see what happens.

I’ve also read on other forums that the Vizio soundbar VSB200 is a super option and usually ‘fixes/covers’ the problem and adds to the sound quality of the system!

I bought my first HDTV and it is a 47″ Vizio E470VA. After spending hundreds of dollars for this tv, I am extremely disappointed. First issue, I will be watching a show and all of a sudden the audio will stop. It won’t recover until I change the channel. Second issue, the volumn on my sat. remote controller with either work volumn up or down, not both. I have to use the tv remote to control the volumn. My next tv will not be vizio.

I purchased this TV a few days before Christmas. I agree with you all the picture is amazing. However when i hook my cable box up to the hdmi ports from time to time the sound would be muffled and then just go out. I called my cable company and they were at my house for two days changing cables boxes. When i called Vizio i was not impressed with the service i received for the amount of money I spent. I was on the phone for an hour and a half arguing with the tech who told me to go buy a blu-ray player to see if i had the same problem. After a few choice words they understood that that was not an option. The orginally TV was out of stock and it took me calling several times to see where my replacement tv was before I spoke with someone who knew how to do their job. 4 week later I received a sub modle and I not sure how I feel about this. I have another Vizio tv and I love that one. I hope vizio reads these comments and improves their customer service.

Vizio E470VA delivered yesterday. Worked for day and sound was erratic, especially eardrum bursting on commercials. Lower 1/4 screen went black for about 5 seconds and then reverted to almost normal.
Today, it does not work at all. Have spent hours with Target Tech and on net, but no resolution. Avoid this TV!!!!

Bought a E470VA bac in Nov.2010, I have had problems with the sound and picture since I bought it. After 2 months of calling Vizio Customer ( lack of ) service, they finally send a service guy out. He replaces 3 boards, leaves and later that day, same problems. So after another 2 weeks Vizio agrees to replace it. By the way, almost everything u need them to do they say ” someone will call u back in 24 to 48 hrs”, that only happens about 25% of the time. So, what should have taken 2 weeks for a new TV, took 30 days, and the replacement TV, the remote doesn’t work, so I can’t set it up. Called Vizio, they won’t overnite a lighter than air remote, 5 to 7 days, u have to be kidding. It this point I only want my money back, nope, they told me they don’t do that. Vizio is a HORRIBLE company.

Have to get rid of this TV–sucks- sound continually “pixelates” ( sounds like jibberish) will quite frequently shut down when changing channels. Picture frequently freezes. Picture will quite often pixelate. I even went to the extreme of changing carrier from Comcast to Verizon. Boy was that also a big mistake. The switch only made my problems worse. ” Bring back antenna T V.” Had a hell of alot less problems.
