Vizio E420VO Review: 42” LCD HDTV
Up for Review: Vizio E420VO LCD TV. Among the mid-range HDTVs that Vizio has introduced this year, this model has a permutation of some of the very good features to be released this year. The 42-inch set has the highest 1080p resolution which makes the images come alive. If you compare the picture quality with another set having 720p resolution, then you will certainly be impressed with the great difference in clarity in the two sets. The higher resolution gives distinct images against clear backgrounds. This is also a pleasure when you watch movies on the Blu-ray disc player or play games on the gaming console. You will be able to enjoy the sharpness in the images while watching your favorite actor make his moves.
A home theater system isn’t required with this TV since the audio of the model is outstanding. With SRS TruSurround HD sound, the music will also carry you into your dream world even if you are sitting away from the TV. You no longer have to get perturbed by the annoying rise in sound level when the commercials come on or you change channels. TruVolume takes care of this aspect and gives you the desired sound at all times.

Vizio has given a lot of emphasis on achieving great black levels in this set. You will be able to see a much darker black in the scenes and also be able to differentiate between the levels of darkness in the scenes with a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000:1. This will make the pictures even more natural. There are also a billion colors which can display the exact skin tones of the characters in the scenes. The response time of 8 ms and refresh rate of 60 Hz may not be able to keep out the blurring entirely. The high-action sequences may appear a bit hazy. But since this TV is mainly intended for normal TV viewing, you won’t face any problems in watching the talk shows or the news.
In keeping with the efforts by all HDTV manufacturers to keep the energy consumption low, Vizio has also introduced many features in this TV to keep the energy usage low. There is a built-in ambient light sensor which manages the brightness of the TV in accordance with the room lighting. The resultant picture will always be soothing to your eyes. This set too complies with the Energy Star 4.0 standards. On the connectivity front, it has only 2 HDMI which might seem a little less looking at the number of options that we have for connecting high definition devices. But normal TV viewers will have no complaints and they will be more than satisfied with this TV for the price that it is offered.
YouReviewElectronics.com gives Vizio E420VO 3/5 stars!

We purchased this Television in September 18, 2009. On October 14, 2010, we turned the television to find the left side of the TV was all lines. After about 15 minutes it warmed up an the whole picture would appear. We called Vizio and basically, to bad, to sad, we were out of warranty and need to call the company locally to repiar the television. Needless to say we have a 50″ Vizio TV also and right after this, that television wouldn’t turn on. The 50″ was already repiared once (the motherboard) and now broke again. That tv is about 3 years old. So 2 non working Vizio televisions. Fluke? I don’t think so. There product is definitely inferior. Maybe if 1 broke I would understand completely but in this case the 50″ twice and now the 42″ once. Even though they are a lower priced model, Vizio, claims it is a good product. They are not quality products. It is worth the extra $200 – 400 dollars to get a better name brand. My sony is over 5 years old and I have never had any issues.
Im getting ready to purchase this TV at Costco next week, and I have to say that I am excited. Ive been following Vizio’s progress since they hit the American market a few years ago. Ive read a lot of mixed reviews, and I think a lot of the negitive stuff can be simply explained. As a high end home theater adn appliance installer/tech, I can tell you no modern LCD is built to last more than a few years, if you get 3-5 out of any new TV your doing good. As an installer Ive noticed a lot of people cram their LCD into some wall unit or in an area where its kind of closed in. LCD’s put off a lot of heat, and as such if they do not have proper ventalation, their lifespan will shorten and you will experiance many varying problems. Smae goes for wall mounting, I know it looks nice, but again it doesnt allow the TV to propperly cool itself.
Ive never had a problem with ant LCD ive ever owned, from my Sharp Aquos to the 22″ Emerson that serves as my PC monitor. My living room tv sits on a flat entertainment stand, nothing to teh sides or above, and at least 2 feet between the TV and the wall behind.
In short, Vizio is as good a TV as the Sony, Samsung, Sharp, and definatly better than the Toshiba. Korea is getting things right now days. Hyundai is number 3 in the world of automotive reliability and Vizeo is aiming for the top dog’s in the home theater world.
