Viore LC22VH55 Review: 22” LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Viore LC22VH55 LCD TV. This offering from Viore is pretty much the same as the one from the VF59 series. The major difference is perhaps in the resolution. Unlike the VF59 model, this one has 720p resolution. This resolution is alright for the average programs that you get on the TV. But when one considers watching movies on the Blu-ray disc player, the reception is not up to expectations. But the price also goes down with 720p resolution. You can get an HDTV for a much lesser price.

The contrast ratio also goes down at 800:1. With a lower contrast ratio, the black levels are severely affected. The blacks do not appear to be very dark and the problem arises in certain scenes. The brightness is 400 cd/m2, which is quite good for viewing. The resulting picture is rich in color and brightness but a lot can be said about the contrast ratio. The viewing angle is also not satisfactory. A lot of improvement can be done in this department also. A better viewing angle would have allowed you to sit in any part of the room and still get a decent view of the images.

Viore LC22VH55 Features and Specifications Review:

  • 22” display
  • VGA PC interface
  • TFT active matrix technology
  • 1366 x 768 resolution
  • 16:9 aspect ratio
  • 800:1 contrast ratio
  • 170 degrees viewing angle
  • NTSC/ATSC tuner
  • Parental channel lock
  • Infrared remote control
  • 2 speakers of 2W
  • 1 HDMI
  • 1 year warranty

A very good feature of the Viore LC22VH55 is its remote. It is an Infrared remote which can control all devices connected to the TV. The buttons are also impressive and it is a good fit in the hands. There is a parental channel lock which allows you to screen some channels from being watched by your kids. The audio again disappoints with an output of 6W only. However, since this is a small TV, the audio is alright inside small rooms. The sound clarity is good. There is no surround sound to help you to hear the sound in any part of the room.

The connectivity is as expected with 1 HDMI, 1 component video and 1 composite video input. The HDMI helps to connect high definition devices like camcorders, DVD players and gaming consoles. There is an absence of an USB port which would have helped access digital photos. However, Viore makes all efforts to woo the net-crazy consumers of today by providing a VGA input to convert the HDTV into a computer monitor. In fact, Viore has made compromises with many features in order to provide a basic HDTV for a very low cost.

    Buyers Remorse.
Viore 22inch. Bought 22 inch from hardware store for $130 after $100 rebate – great price! Pic is fine, sound is ok. Can’t get a universal remote (cable box) to work with it – and I have tried 4 types of remotes since I work for the cable company. At this point I would rather have skipped the 100 rebate and just spent original price on a more established brand. Who know using 1 remote would be worth $100 bucks? Lesson Learned!
