Toshiba 65ZX900 Review: 65” LED HDTV

Up for Review: Toshiba 65ZX900 LED TV. With the line separating a high-powered computer and a TV getting thinner by the day, Toshiba is introducing a cell processor in this particular model which is 10 times faster than the Intel Core 2 Duo chip found in desktop PCs. This cell processor is reminiscent of the one found in the Sony PlayStation 3. Unbelievably so, this TV has 802.11n built-in wireless and a 1 TB hard drive. This will ensure the easy transfer of media files like music, video and pictures across a network. And to further add to the entertainment options, there is a built-in BD player which can stream content from BD and DVD discs to the hard drive. If that is not enough then the DLNA will allow you to do the same from the PCs to the TV.

Since the main theme of all the TVs released this year happens to be 3D ready models, it is quite expected that this TV too will flaunt 3D technology. In fact, it goes a step further by promising to convert any 2D content to 3D. But we have to wait some more days to see the quality after the conversion. But one can confidently rant about the provision of the full suite of interactive services like Vudu, NetFlix, Pandora and CinemaNow. Following LG’s inclusion of Skype in the models to be released this year, Toshiba too has talked about including video phone capabilities to facilitate home video conferencing.

The Toshiba 65ZX900 is a LED TV which has integrated local dimming technology. The company is very confident about the quality of local dimming this time and claims that it is much better than the quality in the previous models. Called the KIRA2, the new system provides double the brightness and has 512 dimmable zones which will definitely get rid of the blooming found in the previous models. This panel is a special feature of this series only and the rest of the models have to make do with the same old panels.

The refresh rates goes up a few notches higher at 480 Hz. The video processing is a worthwhile combination of the scanning backlights in the previous Toshiba models and the motion compensation process recently used by Sony and Samsung. But again, it is difficult to say how this high refresh rate can really affect picture quality in the real context. Another feature worth talking about is the separate media box storing the processor. So you have the opportunity to connect the cable box wirelessly. Belonging to the Genesis series, this TV is all set to woo the international audience. People will certainly make a beeline for it despite the handsome price tag!
