Sylvania LC195SLX Review: 19” LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Sylvania LC195SLX LCD TV. This innovative product from Sylvania promises to bring pure entertainment home. The 1366 x 768p WXGA resolution plays a huge role in the good quality of the HDTV. Although it misses out on the DVD quality of the 1080p resolution, the 720p resolution is good enough to view all the programs on TV. Most of the television programs are telecast in 720p, and hence there is no problem regarding the picture quality.

The built-in ATSC/NTSC tuner works quite well in getting hold of free-to-air signals which does away with the need of a separate set-top box. However, paid channels are encrypted and hence will need a set-top box for viewing them. It boasts of a contrast ratio of 1000:1 which is good for black levels. However, with the competition mounting among HDTVs, it is better to improve the contrast ratio to have excellent black levels. The viewing angle is also in need of improvement. The images can have a blurred look at the edges.

The 8ms response time also brings a flicker-free image to you.

The audio quality speaks highly of the Sylvania LC195SLX. There is a built-in 20W stereo speaker system which will bring across the dialogues and music quite clearly. Although there is no surround sound feature, the audio is good enough to be heard anywhere in the room. Trying to popularize the HDTV in places which do not use English on a large scale, Sylvania has made use of French and Spanish on-screen display also.
