Sony KDL-52VE5 Review: 52″ LCD TV

Up for review: Sony KDL-52V35. The new Sony KDL-52VE5 is the largest unit of Sony group’s Eco line of LCD HDTV’s. As per the electronics major’s claim, the new BRAVIA VE5-series models have been designed with technologically advanced energy saving features. Just like its other 2009 launched LCD models, the VE5-series also exceed Energy Star(R) 3.0 requirement standards.

With 1080p format including the 1920 x 1080 native resolutions, the new Sony KDL-52VE5 is likely to produce superior quality of image output. With 16:9 aspect ratio and Sony’s innovative Motionflow 120Hz technology, the Sony KDL-52VE5 is expected to produce sharper and crisper images without motion blur especially in high action scenes. This new VE5-series LCD also feature a light sensor which will automatically adjust the backlight depending on the room light. This feature will improve the image contrast further.

The 52-inch KDL-52VE5 incorporates Sony’s innovative micro-tubular Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (HCFL), which claims will reduce power consumption by almost 40 percent as compared to other LCD HDTV models. The VE5-series models are expected to hit the market by spring of this year and Sony is yet to announce the prices.

The new Sony KDL-52VE5 also features an innovative Presence Sensor which automatically turns off the picture when no one is present in the vicinity after a stipulated time period set by the user. In this way unnecessary power consumption can be saved. Besides this, the new KDL-52VE5 has a zero-watt standby Energy Saving Switch can be manually turned off when the set is not in use and thus power can be saved to nearly zero watts.

Equipped with Bravia Engine 2 technology, the KDL-52VE5 is expected to provide further image enhancement. It also has 24p True cinema support, which means movies can be enjoyed in its original format. Besides 4x HDMI 1.3 inputs, PC VGA input and component input, the new Sony KDL-52VE5 is also compatible with Bravia Input link, Wireless Link, and Bravia DVD link. With so many advanced and energy saving features, this new VE5-series model is definitely expected to create a strong buzz in the market upon its arrival.
