Sony KDL-32L5000 Review: 32” LCD HDTV
Up for Review: Sony KDL-32L5000 LCD TV. As is true with most comparable models in the HDTV world, Sony TV’s stand out as the ones being the most expensive but with the maximum number of additional features as well. Everyone has an interest in buying a Sony and perhaps to make things a bit easier for your finances, Sony introduced this model which is priced quite decently going by Sony levels. It retains the sleek black look and impeccable picture quality and also includes a great looking remote. This remote has all the buttons in the right places and is very useful for navigating without a hiccup. There are some minor uniformity issues but which don’t stand much importance as compared with the other handsome features.
The drop in price in the Sony KDL-32L5000 can be attributed in part to the 720p display resolution. But there is not much difference in the picture quality and you get quite a few more perks for this omission. This is particularly noticeable in the picture modes. Three adjustable picture modes are there which do not depend on the input source. The theater button on the remote accesses the Cinema preset. Other features of note are the extra color temperature modes and the inclusion of six adjustments in the white balance controls. There is a CineMotion control for the 2:3 pulldown, three noise reduction adjustments and a black corrector too.

Power saving seems to be a key advantage of this model. The peak light input is controlled by two power saving modes. You also have the privilege of leaving the sound on while putting off the video if you are interested in just the audio part, like in listening to music. The set can also switch off automatically if left idle for some time. While power seems to be the major talking point of this set, it has certain minor flaws like the color reproduction and uniformity. But it makes up with very good black levels with great detail in the shadows.
The Sony KDL-32L5000 leaves all its competition behind when it comes to the issue of connectivity. Most of the important ports are at the rear including 2 HDMI, 2 component video, 1 PC and 1 RF input. There is also an optical digital audio and analog audio output at the rear. Some of the ports are at the side too. 1 HDMI and an AV input with S-video complete the connectivity options. As far as the performance is concerned, there is no blurring in the pictures. The images look just as great under bright lights and it makes an excellent PC monitor. Priced at $449.99 MSRP, it definitely is a model you should buy if you can spare the extra bit.
