Samsung LN52B550 Review: 52” LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Samsung LN52B550K1F LCD TV. Samsung takes the quality of entertainment to the next level by introducing an enhanced technology for color. With the inclusion of Wide Color Enhancer2 technology and CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp), color is significantly improved with the images appearing more natural than ever before. There are a number of shades which take care of the intricacies in the design of the pixels in every image. With a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the pictures are more like you get to see in the theaters.

But lack of the LED technology keeps the contrast ratio down. But this hardly has any effect on the black levels. A 70,000:1 contrast ratio is still high enough to warrant attention from the inquisitive customer. The resulting pictures are very bright and the images look good enough to simulate the actual atmosphere. Adding to this natural look is the 1080p resolution. This is responsible for making all the images, especially the ones we get from Blu-ray disc players, appear vividly beautiful. But this very 1080p resolution allows a hike in the price with the Samsung LN52B550 being available for a healthy $1799.99 MSRP.

The built-in HDTV tuner is very handy in making available free-to-air signals. But the encrypted signals can only be accessed through a set top box. However, most of the basic programs and channels are available through this tuner. Along with this tuner, there are many convenient options for connectivity. There is a PC input which makes it possible to use the HDTV as a computer monitor. The presence of 4 HDMI facilitates the use of many high definition devices like camcorders, Blu-ray disc players and gaming consoles. Additionally, there is an USB port for connecting to a digital device like a camera.

But the first thing which appeals to every viewer is the svelte looks of the TV. It is quite slim with a Touch of Color design. A hint of gray accentuates the top and bottom edges of the TV. The remote is also specially designed with Anynet Plus HDMI-CEC in order to control all the peripheral A/V devices. And to provide the final touch there is the Energy Star qualification. This helps the TV to save a lot of power and be a part of the energy conservation campaign. With all the basic features intact, this HDTV is surely a set which will entice most of the consumers.
