The Olevia 255T FHD is a 55-inch behemoth, and one of the largest screens available in the market today. Sure there are some bigger models available, but most run into five figures. This one, however, offers close to five foot of screen real estate, and hit it he market in December 2007 at a maximum retail price of $2,699. The set offers full 1080p support (which is a given for a display of this size), plus it also supports 60 frames per second mode, which makes it an excellent option for large screen gaming whether on a console or PC. The display sports a black bezel finish, one that is a step up from the earlier models from the company in terms of design and aesthetics, and looks almost as good as some of the higher end models from certain Asian companies. The 255T FHD by Olevia is a large screen display, and as such looks best when connected to HD sources such as a Blu-ray players, high-definition cable and next-generation gaming consoles. Even though the set does a decent job of displaying standard definition content, there may be slight graininess when viewed up close. You shouldn’t experience any problems with ghosting, image distortion and color calibration, whatsoever. Black levels are deep, and the colors vibrant. One good feature is that the set allows firmware updates to be installed to the television from a USB port. These include software updates and quality improvements that can be downloaded from the Olevia website, and seems a nice addition. The on-screen display was user-friendly and responsive. No picture-in-picture support is a disappointment, though. Another thing is the set weighs a ton – literally speaking of course – so make sure you have a couple of friends and family members when you want to move it around. The Olevia 255T FHD looks very good, displays great, and will not cost an arm and a leg. All said and done, it’s one of the more impressive HDTV in the market today.
