LG 47LH90 Review: 47″ LCD HDTV
Up for review: LG 47LH90 LCD TV. The new 47” LCD is LG’s part of recently launched LH90 Series. The Full HD 1080p panel with a clean modern silhouette can be an attention grabber which suits any kind of room décor. With a thickness of less than 1-inch, LG has entered the arena of super-slim LCD panel bandwagon with this new LH90 Series. Expected to be available in market during spring/summer 2009, LG is yet to announce the price of this new 47LH90 LCD model.
If you consider the specifications, the new LG 47LH90 LCD has many similarities with the LHX Series, except the separate set top box feature to run the wireless capability. Even LG hasn’t clearly mentioned if this LH90 Series LCD is wireless capable or not, but we assume it is as the bottom left of the HDTV has “wireless” written on it.
Compared to standard LCD’s, the LG 47LH90 has advanced LED backlighting with Local Dimming feature, which is likely to improve the black-level performance. As a result, stunning image quality even in darker scenes can be enjoyed. With TruMotion 240Hz refresh rate, the new LH90 Series LCD has double power than the standard 120Hz LCD’s. Plus, unlike some other models, LG has used “scanning backlight” technology in this LH90 Series to achieve the 240Hz processing.

The higher refresh rate will produce superior image quality without motion blur. The TruMotion technology also does the up conversion job; hence you won’t require a separate up converting DVD/Blu-ray player while watching the high definition content. But meant for only high definition viewing, the usage of 240Hz refresh rate is doubtful as far as standard viewing is concerned.
Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 2,000,000:1 will improve the color contrast aspect in the new 47-inch LG 47LH90. The LCD also has 24p Real Cinema feature, which means high-def movies can be watched in their true format.

For instance, the Super-In Plane Switching (S-IPS) LCD panel structure of the new LCD facilitates faster response times and better color contrast. LG’s proprietary intelligent room lighting sensor is expected to adjust the image brightness as per the room light condition. Due to its energy efficient features, the new LG 47LH90 is Energy Star 3.0 compliant.
With 4 HDMI (V1.3) inputs including Deep Color, LG 47LH90 seems to have ample connectivity options. Besides that, LG’s proprietary Simplink feature is likely to facilitate connection with compatible cameras and camcorders. With so many advanced features, the new LG 47LH90 is expected to create a strong buzz in the market upon its arrival.

Led backlit tv causes permanent eye damage!
After having vision problems after purchasing a LG LED-backlit TV unit (without knowing nothing about LEDs) I made a research now on LED backlit technology and since the LED lights are directed towards the viewer, watching a LED-backlit TV screen creates a direct health hazard to every viewer. I personally noticed that on my eyes vision after few months of watching LG Model # 42LH90 with LED-backlit screen and my vision became much worse, I need new glasses and my eyes now get tired just a few minutes after watching this TV. The screen is way too bright to watch it with covering one’s eyes when it goes bright. I now turned the LED lights completely off and the TV picture is dark and ugly, but this is the only way I can watch it now.
As we know it is dangerous to look at LED lights for longer than 90 seconds! Yet LG made a TV with thousands of LED lights directed right at your eyes! Every LED light fixture has a WARNING to not look directly into the LED lights yet LG has made a TV set with the entire screen full of LED lights (emitting white light with enough blue light to impair or damage one’s vision) and no warning about any impact of LED lights to your vision. How can that be SAFE?
When I called LG management, they refused to exchange this LED-backlit TV into a safe non-LED TV unit. I did not want my money back or any damages, just another, safe TV unit, yet LG declined my request.
Also I must mention that LG website is a joke. When trying to access “contact us” on LG website it leads to a failed page and while trying to leave a review there is no way to do it, although the text says you can leave a review, there is NO link or button whatsoever to do that and then it says: “Thanks for being a customer!”

An electronics website has problems? then how good are their TVs if they can’t even take care of their website?
LIFE’S GOOD… FOR LG.
There is not one shard of evidence the viewing an LED screen causes eye damage. Get real.
Looking directly into LEDs up close is one thing. LED “Backlighting” is totally different, you’re not looking directly or even seeing the LEDs in a television, they are simply behind the panel as a lighting source.
it is safe, like tim said its backlit, and i think your refering to laser light, led light is used everyday in the streets cars and cities, Your eyes might not like certain light’s like tv or flashlights, more sensitive depending on the persons eyes, i have the 47lh90 lg tv and i love it, 5 month’s now and no problems. hope this helps, by the way, 47lh90 by lg is the best tv to have for all purposes
LED backlighting does hurt a certain percentage of the population. I am one of those people and am very distressed that all TVs and computer screens seem to be moving to this new technology. I bought a new laptop with an LED screen and got severe eye strain, migraines and nausea from using it for a week. I took it back and went back to one of my CFL backlit screens and the problems mostly went away. I say mostly because it has been a month now and my eyes still haven’t healed from the week on that LED laptop. At full brightness they are too bright and if dimmed, the inherent flicker increases and causes even more pain.
Most people don’t have a problem with LED screens, but there should be alternatives for the percentage of us that do. Bring back CFL backlighting!
