I bought this TV at Best Buy a couple weeks ago. I went in fully planning on spending upwards of $1K on a name brand 42-47″ TV. I played with settings and adjustments on several models and actually preferred the way the Insignia looked (and it was just under $650 after tax). It has a very slight graininess in some scenes, but not noticeable unless watching really close to the TV. I used a THX optimode DVD to set all the adjustments and think it looks fantastic. I’m a big movie buff and still have a laserdisc player that uses S-video which made this TV even more appealing as most models have dropped that type of input. The menus are a bit cheap looking, but I guess that’s not really what’s important. I can’t speak for the TV speakers as I have a home theater sound system. I chose not to use the dynamic contrast settings as they are very abrupt and obnoxious (as opposed to more expensive models that adjust very subtly, most of the time without the viewer noticing). The cabinet isn’t as fancy looking as the big brands, but it’s still a nice piano black finish with a simple LED light indicating power state (red-off and blue-on). An added bonus for me was that it is a 60Hz model. I know, I know…120Hz is better right? I think the 120+Hz models actually look too blurry and lack a lot of detail (there are some really expensive models that do look good though). Even when turning the 120Hz setting off on all the models I looked at, they had some unnatural blurriness that I found really irritating. So in conclusion, I really surprised myself when I bought this TV. I usually buy reputable brands only, but in the end this “cheapy” model fared better for my needs. Also, Best Buy’s black tie protection is only $99 for 2 years, which brings you to 4 years of warranty when added to Insignia’s 2 years. Check it out and see for yourself. I think all but the most discernable videophile will appreciate this TVs performance and value.

I bought this tv one year ago and already there are problems – they replaced the mother board and that did not fix it – now they tell me that they are unable to get the part I need – so now I have to lug it back to the store and (probably) fight with Best Buy to get a “comparable” set as a replacement – they would not even deliver it to me without a delivery charge – so despite the fact that I purchased the 4 yr black tie warranty this really sucks and I am not too happy with Best Buy right now. Do not buy this TV – the insides are garbage….
