Envision L19W661 Review: 19” LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Envision L19W661 LCD TV. With a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1440 x 900, this small package from AOC will fit into the niche of a second TV in the house. It will also fulfill the needs of consumers who live in small houses but want to view an HDTV and get all the visual pleasure associated with it. The built-in ATSC/NTSC/Clear QAM tuners will get all the free-to-air signals to the TV and you do not need an extra set top box to view them.

The resolution is good enough for the small TV. The picture quality is great with enhanced sharpness. A 1080p resolution would have resulted in viewing DVD quality movies with the same clarity and crispness. But since the display is small the images look quite sharp. However, the contrast ratio could be improved from 800:1. This is too low for good black levels to be sustained. The blacks are not so discernible and merge with the background colors. The brightness and contrast are also consequently affected.

The audio of the Envision L19W661 is quite good considering its size. There are 2 speakers outputting 6W power together. There is an S/PDIF digital output also to aid in this process. Using an analog D-sub-connector, this HDTV can also be used as a computer monitor. The HDMI connection is very helpful for gaming. You can easily connect your PS3 and play to your heart’s content. The resulting pictures and images are free from flicker and are very natural.

There is no Infrared remote to control the devices simultaneously. However, the available remote is well designed with the buttons well spaced out. The viewing angle is good but can still be improved. There is minimal hazing out of colors towards the edges but the display is not that bad. This TV is perfect for places where space is a luxury and can be accommodated to act as an HDTV and a computer monitor as the need be.
