Coby TFTV2617 Review: 26” LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Coby TFTV2617 LCD TV. The front panel design and looks are more on the lines of all the reputable HDTVs in the market. It has a slim bezel and the lower part of the TV is no longer large as in the smaller sized HDTVs from Coby. This gives a sleek look to the TV. The logo of the company is displayed prominently towards the bottom of the bezel. The 26” display is large enough to adorn your living room. A price tag of $349.99 makes it all the more attractive.

A review of the Coby TFTV2617 shows that it has dual ATSC/NTSC tuners to receive digital signals. It is DTV ready and does not need a separate device for digital coding. You can view all the free-to-air channels on the TV without the need of a set-top box. The Coby TFTV2617 has 2 HDMI connections which are very useful to connect gaming devices, Blu-ray players and camcorders to the HDTV. If you have a universal remote, then you can control all the connected devices with on remote.

The presence of a VGA interface makes it possible for the Coby TFTV2617 to be used as a computer monitor. It will be possible to view all the websites on a large screen. This HDTV scores high in the audio department. It has in-built speakers with an output of 20W. The display resolution is good with 1366 x 768 but it cannot match the standards set by 1080p resolution. However, it is good enough for the programs telecast on television.

The contrast ratio can be improved upon. It is a mere 700:1 which is not enough for great black levels. The picture quality is subsequently affected. With contrast ratio reaching high levels by the well known brands in HDTV, Coby has to work on it to stay in contention in the world market. Some of the features which it does provide are V-chip parental control and HDCP compliance for HDCP content. The Coby TFTV2617 is a fairly good TV if you are satisfied with the basics.
